Rare Titanic Relic from National Geograhpic Expedition

This is one of only three relics brought up from the ocean floor in the 1986 National Geographic Expedition.

The H.M.S. Titanic struck an iceberg and was sunk on April 15, 1912, with great loss of life and property. Shortly after these artifacts were secured, the Titanic was declared an international mausoleum in honor of the 1490 who died. No other salvaging will be allowed.

The condition of the items collected bears strong testimony to the enormous pressures of the sea. This item was collected from the port-side promenade deck. It is thought that it was part of the lifeboat davit hold-down mechanism.

Great expense was incurred to collect this from the ocean bottom as the remote submersible Alvin incurs over $10,000 an hour in operating costs. This should not be resold as its rarity is clearly seen. It should be displayed prominently in a secure area.
